Amidst fireworks and the deafening clamor of gongs and drums, adults held their phones high to capture their faith on screen; perched atop her father’s shoulders—held high so she wouldn't miss a thing—a little girl gazed intently at the distant palanquin of the Dajia Mazu deity. In this silent exchange fueled by a father's love, a unique piece of Taiwanese cultural heritage was being imprinted upon the child's memory. The Dajia Mazu pilgrimage reveals not only the power of faith but also the significance of intergenerational continuity and the greatness of a father's love.
